In Columbia, your shaded landscape is the problem. From the big trees in your yard off Nashville Highway to the foundation shrubs in Westbury or Hampshire, that’s where mosquitoes hide from our summer sun. They rest on the underside of leaves during the day, completely missed by typical sprays that only coat the top. Ticks get dropped off by deer that love to browse your arborvitae and other ornamentals, right in those same areas. My treatment targets exactly these zones, not your open lawn, because that’s not where these pests live.
My Bee-Safe, Custom Mix
I will not use anything that harms pollinators or requires me to wear a respirator. After testing countless products, I had to create my own blend using cedar oil, garlic oil, peppermint oil, and a specific soap. This botanical mix controls pests effectively but is safe for bees. Because it’s bee-safe, I can legally and thoroughly treat flowering plants, which is crucial since that’s often prime mosquito habitat. You get complete coverage without the guilt or risk.
The Right Equipment For The Job
I apply my mix with an Echo backpack mist blower. The outlet points upward. I hold it low and aim the mist up into your shrubs and tree canopy, up to about 15-20 feet. This gets the solution onto the underside of the leaves where the mosquitoes actually are. A standard sprayer can’t do this. It’s a low-volume application that uses wind to carry the treatment, making it efficient and precise for your property, whether you’re near the Polk Home or in a newer subdivision off Bear Creek Pike.
Managing Water & Pollinator Gardens
At sign-up, I walk your property to identify every source of standing water, from clogged gutters to planter saucers. For spots that can’t be emptied, like a pond, I use bacterial mosquito dunks that are safe for everything else. If you have a dedicated pollinator garden, I simply adjust my formula around it, cutting the peppermint oil for an ultra-cautious approach. You don’t have to choose between a comfortable yard and supporting pollinators. With our humidity and the upcoming water rate increases, managing your property smartly matters more than ever.
Why Mosquito & Tick Control Matters in Columbia
The I-65 corridor's abundant rainfall, warm temperatures, and lush vegetation create perfect habitat for mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. Standing water in Middle Tennessee's clay soils provides breeding sites for mosquitoes, while the region's deer population supports high tick numbers. Properties near creeks, wooded areas, or with dense landscaping are particularly vulnerable.
