Professional lawn fertilization service for Eagleville homeowners, delivered by Middle Tennessee's only UT Certified lawn treatment specialists.
If you're fertilizing your Eagleville lawn based on what you grab from the shelf, you're likely causing more problems than you solve. On these large hilltop properties, washing excess phosphorus into the ponds is a real concern, and the wrong nitrogen can burn your grass when the summer heat hits. I treat yards here differently because your soil and your lot size demand it.
Fertilizing an Eagleville property isn't about following the generic bag instructions. Your larger lawns, like those up near the Eagleville Co-Op or along the rural stretches of Cox Road, are surrounded by agricultural land and often have their own ponds. The biggest mistake I see here is the overuse of phosphorus from common "weed and feed" or starter fertilizers. Middle Tennessee soil is already saturated with it. When it rains on your hillside, that excess phosphorus runs straight into the water, feeding the algae blooms you see every fall. My program uses zero phosphorus unless a specific, rare visual deficiency is confirmed, protecting your local water.
For your tall fescue, nitrogen is the only nutrient you should worry about upfront. The grass here is always hungry for it. I apply the majority of your annual nitrogen in the fall, which builds strong roots and carbohydrate reserves to survive the next summer's drought. I use smart-sourced nitrogen, like ammonium sulfate, which also addresses the common sulfur deficiency we now see since clean air laws reduced atmospheric sulfur. This approach gives you a resilient lawn without the unnecessary chemicals that harm the ecosystem around your property.
You'll read everywhere that you need a soil test to start. That's false for turf grass. I pull a sample when you sign up, but I'm not looking to dump a cocktail of micronutrients. I use it primarily to choose the right nitrogen source for your specific patch of Rutherford County ground. If, after we correct mowing, irrigation, and everything else, the lawn still doesn't look right, then we look at that data. This saves you money on tests and applications for things like zinc or manganese, which university field research has never shown to actually help a lawn in real-world conditions.
On hot days, which can stretch into late September here, quick-release fertilizers can suck moisture right out of your grass, causing burn. I use sulfur-coated urea for slow release; it feeds the lawn steadily and adds beneficial sulfur without the permanent microplastics left by plastic-coated fertilizers. Also, for homes on these expansive lots, I never recommend bagging your clippings. Leaving them returns a huge amount of nitrogen back to the soil, effectively cutting your needed fertilizer in half and saving you time and effort.
Middle Tennessee's heavy clay soils and slightly alkaline pH create unique nutritional challenges for fescue lawns. High potassium levels are common, but nitrogen and phosphorus must be carefully managed. The transition zone climate requires specific timing—lighter summer feeding to prevent heat stress and heavy fall feeding for root development. Our program is built specifically around these local soil and climate realities.

No, not for applying fertilizer to turf grass. Your tall fescue is always deficient in nitrogen, so that's the primary focus. I take a soil test as part of my service, but I use it to inform the nitrogen source, not to justify adding a list of other nutrients that likely won't help.
It's likely from excess phosphorus. Most store-bought fertilizers and weed-and-feed products contain phosphorus, which our soils don't need. When it rains on your hillside property, that phosphorus washes into the pond, feeding algae blooms. My fertilization program uses no phosphorus unless a severe, visible deficiency is proven.
You can, but it mostly just makes you mow more. The most important fertilization happens in the fall to build root depth and drought resistance for the next year. If I apply nitrogen in summer, it's a calibrated amount based on the lawn's performance, and I often use a slow-release form to avoid burn during heat waves.
I do not recommend it. Products like Milorganite are derived from treated sewage sludge and can contain PFAS "forever chemicals." Also, to get enough nitrogen, you'd have to apply a massive amount of unnecessary phosphorus, which pollutes our local waterways. I use cleaner, more efficient nitrogen sources.
