Professional mole trapping & removal for Eagleville homeowners, delivered by Middle Tennessee's only UT Certified lawn treatment specialists.
You’ve got a big, beautiful Eagleville property on top of one of these hills, and overnight it looks like a battlefield of dirt mounds and raised tunnels. You didn’t invest in your view just to stare at mole damage. Here, where your land borders pastures and hay fields, these pests have a direct path from the woods right into your lawn.
Seeing those dirt piles around your trees or the raised tunnels snaking along your driveway and patio edges is frustrating. In Eagleville, where properties are large and often border open fields, moles have plenty of room to roam. They don't stay in the pastures; they move into your managed turf. That damage isn't random. Those surface tunnels along your hardscape are their main highways, and the mounds near trees signal a deeper problem below.
Google will tell you moles are there for grubs, and that’s true, but it misses the root cause. Almost every mole problem I see starts with a stressed tree on the property, often one planted too deep years ago or damaged in a storm. A stressed tree’s roots become soft and easy for white grubs to eat, causing their numbers to explode. Those grubs then become a buffet, attracting moles from the surrounding areas. Simply putting down grub control won't fix it, because the insecticide can't reach the grubs feeding on those deep tree roots. Trapping is the only way to remove the moles actively working your yard.
A common mistake is thinking removing one mole solves the problem. Moles are fiercely territorial. If I trap and remove the mole in your yard, its empty tunnel network becomes prime real estate. A neighbor mole doing its perimeter check will find these vacant, pre-dug tunnels and move right in, sometimes within weeks. That’s why my approach has three parts: trapping the current moles, applying a grub control to disincentivize new ones, and placing a specific poison in the tunnels to deter that next mole from taking over the territory. It addresses the immediate issue and the inevitable follow-up.
The real solution goes beyond the trap. For a lasting fix on your Eagleville hilltop, we need to help the stressed tree that likely started this cycle. Over one to two years, as the tree recovers, its roots get tougher and produce natural defenses. The grub population subsides, and moles lose their food incentive. I use in-tunnel traps buried completely for safety, especially important with larger properties where kids and pets play. I find the active runs, often those crossing mower tracks or butting against your driveway, and place traps with clean scent discipline. Let’s stop the cycle and reclaim your lawn.
Middle Tennessee's moist, loamy-clay soils are rich in earthworms and grubs — the primary food sources for moles. The region's abundant rainfall keeps soil moist and soft, making tunneling easy and productive for moles. Properties near wooded areas, creek banks, or with irrigated lawns are particularly attractive to moles. Grub control can reduce mole food sources, but trapping is necessary to remove moles already established on your property.

Yes, that's a real risk due to mole territorial behavior. My three-part protocol is designed for exactly this. I trap the current moles, use grub control to reduce the food source, and place a poison in the tunnels to deter new moles from the adjacent fields from moving into the empty territory.
In my experience, sonic spikes do not work. Castor oil can sometimes repel moles, but it smells awful, is temporary, and they often come back within weeks. It's not a reliable solution for an active infestation, especially on larger properties like yours where the moles have ample space.
The dirt mounds you see are almost certainly from moles. Voles make very shallow, barely noticeable tunnels with small holes, but they don't create those distinct dirt piles. In Middle Tennessee, voles are pretty rare in lawns, and mole traps will catch them if they are sharing the tunnels.
While grubs attract moles, treating for them alone rarely solves an active problem. Moles also eat earthworms, which are beneficial and can't be eliminated. More importantly, the grubs may be feeding deep on the roots of a stressed tree, where surface insecticide can't reach. Trapping is necessary to remove the moles already in your yard.
