Professional mole trapping & removal for Nolensville homeowners, delivered by Middle Tennessee's only UT Certified lawn treatment specialists.
If you live in Bent Creek or Burkitt Place and have seen fresh tunnels appear along your new driveway's edge, you're dealing with a classic Nolensville mole problem. In newer neighborhoods like yours, where trees were planted too deep by builders, a predictable, grub-driven invasion is now hitting its peak. Those unsightly raised runs are not random; they're a direct symptom of stressed trees in your yard.
In Nolensville, especially in the newer developments off York Road, mole tunnels appearing alongside your concrete is a guarantee of an active infestation. When a mole hits your foundation or walkway, it simply tunnels beside it, creating a permanent highway. Those surface runs along your hardscape are their most active routes. My first step is always a safety-first, in-tunnel trapping protocol focused on these exact locations. The traps are buried completely underground, marked only with a small flag, so your kids and pets can play safely while we remove the current animals.
The real reason moles show up in a 5-8 year old Nolensville yard is almost always a tree health issue. Builders frequently plant trees too deep. Years later, that tree becomes stressed. A stressed tree produces soft, undefended roots that become a buffet for white grubs. This grub explosion is what attracts the moles. Simply killing grubs won't solve it; the insecticide can't reach deep enough into the soil profile near the stressed tree. That's why trapping is the immediate, necessary step.
Moles are fiercely territorial. If I trap and remove one, a mole from your neighbor's lot in Stonebrook will soon find the empty, pre-dug tunnel network and move right in. My three-part protocol addresses this. First, we trap the current moles. Second, we implement a grub control plan to remove the food incentive for new ones. Third, we place a specific poison in the abandoned tunnels. This poison isn't for the mole we caught; it's for the next one that comes sniffing around the vacant territory, preventing a re-infestation within weeks.
The ultimate solution involves correcting the root cause. For many yards near the Nolensville Historic District, this means addressing those builder-planted trees. Over one to two years, as the tree recovers and its roots toughen up, the grub population will naturally decline. Combined with ongoing trapping and grub management, this breaks the cycle. While compacted, gravelly soils from new construction can be a challenge for grass, they're actually less inviting to moles initially. Your problem started when the landscape matured just enough for that tree stress to trigger the whole cascade.
Middle Tennessee's moist, loamy-clay soils are rich in earthworms and grubs — the primary food sources for moles. The region's abundant rainfall keeps soil moist and soft, making tunneling easy and productive for moles. Properties near wooded areas, creek banks, or with irrigated lawns are particularly attractive to moles. Grub control can reduce mole food sources, but trapping is necessary to remove moles already established on your property.

This is classic mole territorial behavior. Removing one mole leaves a vacant, pre-dug network. A neighbor's mole will find it and take over. My protocol includes placing a deterrent in the old tunnels specifically to catch these opportunistic newcomers and prevent rapid re-infestation.
Not directly. Moles also eat earthworms, which you don't want to eliminate. Even with zero grubs, worms can sustain them. More importantly, the grubs feeding on your stressed tree's roots are too deep for surface insecticide to reach. Trapping is the only reliable way to remove moles that are already there.
No. University-verified testing shows sonic spikes are ineffective. Castor oil sprays may repel moles for a very short time, but they smell awful and only last about two weeks before the moles return. They are not a reliable solution for a Nolensville infestation.
That sounds more like a vole. Voles are mouse-like rodents that sometimes use mole tunnels. They create small holes and very shallow runs. My in-tunnel traps can catch voles as well, as they often share the same network. True mole tunnels are raised and very pronounced, especially along hardscapes.
