Mosquito & Tick Control for Franklin Homeowners
Franklin yards are beautiful with all that mature landscaping, but it means mosquitoes have endless places to hide under the leaves of your shrubs and trees. And where the deer come to snack on your arborvitaes near River Landing or Westhaven, they're dropping ticks. You shouldn't have to choose between enjoying your outdoor space and being safe from pests.
You know the routine. Plan a barbecue by the pool in McKay's Mill or an evening on the patio in Downtown Franklin, and you're swarmed. Most mosquito treatments just spray everything, including your lawn, but mosquitoes aren't out in the open grass in the heat of the day. They're hiding in the shaded landscaped areas, specifically on the *underside* of leaves in your trees and perennial beds. That's exactly why my approach is different. I use a backpack mist blower to spray upward into that canopy, coating the undersides of leaves where mosquitoes actually rest. It's targeted, and it's done with a custom bee-safe mix I had to create myself because nothing on the market met my standards.
The Franklin Deer & Tick Connection
The reason you find ticks isn't your lawn. Ticks can't live in a regularly mowed fescue yard. They're brought in by deer, which love to feed on ornamental plants all over town, from the thickets near Temple Hills to the landscaped yards in Fieldstone Farms. Wherever deer eat, ticks drop. The good news is that ticks end up in the same shaded, landscaped zones as mosquitoes. So when I treat for mosquitoes by spraying up into your shrubs and trees, I'm simultaneously treating the exact areas where ticks are introduced. It's one precise application that handles both problems effectively.
A Bee-Safe Mix That Actually Works
Many treatments can't be sprayed on flowering plants because they kill bees. I'm very bee-conscious, so I spent time testing ingredients to find a blend that works without harming pollinators. My mix uses cedar oil, garlic oil, peppermint oil, and a specific soap. Because it's bee-safe, I can legally and ethically treat your flowering plants, which is often a core mosquito habitat. This means complete coverage without the guilt. For true pollinator gardens, I simply adjust the formula, cutting the peppermint as an extra precaution. You get protection and keep your garden thriving.
Managing Your Property’s Water
Standing water is where mosquitoes breed. My first step with any new Franklin customer is a walk-through of your entire property to find every potential source, from clogged gutters and birdbaths to the low spots in your yard that hold water after our frequent summer storms. For permanent water features that can't be emptied, I use bacterial tablets (mosquito dunks) that are safe for everything except mosquito larvae. By early May, before our humidity really sets in, getting control of these sites drastically reduces the local population you have to deal with all season.
Why Mosquito & Tick Control Matters in Franklin
The I-65 corridor's abundant rainfall, warm temperatures, and lush vegetation create perfect habitat for mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. Standing water in Middle Tennessee's clay soils provides breeding sites for mosquitoes, while the region's deer population supports high tick numbers. Properties near creeks, wooded areas, or with dense landscaping are particularly vulnerable.
