Giles County — Disease Control
Professional lawn disease & fungus control for Lynnville homeowners, delivered by Middle Tennessee's only UT Certified lawn treatment specialists.
You see those brown patches spreading across your Lynnville lawn, you assume it's the July heat, and you water more. That's exactly what the fungus wants. On these historic properties near the Blackberry Festival grounds, our thick clay soils and the long hours of dew every morning create a perfect storm for brown patch and dollar spot. I see it every summer.
If your lawn looks thin and brown by late June, especially in sun-drenched areas off Old Highway 31 or near the railroad museum, it’s almost certainly not drought. In the humid, still air of a Lynnville summer, your tall fescue stays soaked from dusk until mid-morning. This constant moisture lets fungal diseases like brown patch take hold. By the time you see large dead areas, the classic bullseye patterns have already merged. Watering more only feeds the infection, spreading it downhill across your property.
Most companies offer a cheaper plan without fungicide, waiting for your lawn to get sick so they can charge you double for an emergency cure. I consider that unethical. The product labels, which are the law, direct preventive use. That’s why every one of my lawn care plans for Lynnville includes a preventive fungicide program starting in May, a full month before most others start. We target the two diseases you will get here: brown patch and dollar spot. It’s not a question of if, but when.
Stopping fungal disease isn't just about avoiding dead circles. It’s about resource allocation. When a plant isn’t fighting off infection, it has more energy for deep roots and handling stress. That means your lawn can better survive a missed watering, a mowing mistake, or a family barbecue on the Fourth of July. For homes with larger lots bordering pastures, this resilience is critical. You get a lawn that stays green and thick through our toughest summers, without you having to babysit the irrigation.
Middle Tennessee's transition zone climate—characterized by hot, humid summers and heavy overnight dew—creates extreme fungal pressure for cool-season grasses like fescue. Brown patch thrives in these exact conditions. A preventive fungicide program is not a luxury here; it is a necessity for maintaining a thick, healthy fescue lawn through the summer months.

That's the classic early sign of brown patch. The fungus breaks down the grass and releases nitrogen, which flushes a ring of darker green growth around the dead spot. If you water more, thinking it's dry, you'll make the problem spread rapidly across your lawn.
In Middle Tennessee, and especially in humid areas like Lynnville, skipping fungicide guarantees you'll get disease. Many companies will sell you that lower-tier plan, but it's a setup for failure. I build fungicide into every plan because the label requires preventive care, and it's the only way to protect your investment.
Both are huge problems here. For a definitive field check, pull a blade at the edge of a brown area. If it has a horizontal brown band across the middle, that's dollar spot. If it has vertical gray or brown streaks along its length, that's brown patch. You often get both at the same time.
That sounds like pythium blight, the most destructive disease for fescue. It often follows water drainage paths. It requires an immediate, very expensive curative treatment. The best prevention is fixing drainage and being on a consistent preventive fungicide program that includes pythium coverage.
