Williamson County — Disease Control
Professional lawn disease & fungus control for Triune homeowners, delivered by Middle Tennessee's only UT Certified lawn treatment specialists.
When your lawn in Triune turns brown in the middle of summer, you might blame the heat or think you need to water more. That's exactly what the fungus wants you to do. Adding more water to our heavy clay soils just fuels the destructive diseases that are inevitable here along the Old Hillsboro corridor.
Your lawn is going to get brown patch and dollar spot in Triune's climate. That’s not an if, but a when. Our mix of intense sun on big lots and the subtropical humidity creates a greenhouse effect every night. By late May, when nighttime temperatures consistently stay above 75, the conditions are set. Most companies wait until June, when you see brown circles, to offer a cure. I start applying a targeted fungicide preventively in May, so your grass never gets infected in the first place. This is the standard of care my UT license requires, and it’s built into every plan.
When you see dead patches near your driveway or in your backyard bordering the hay fields, it’s likely past the early textbook stage. Those bullseye circles from brown patch or silver-dollar spots from dollar spot only last about two weeks. Then they merge into large, uniform brown areas that look exactly like drought damage. This is when homeowners in Arrington or College Grove make it worse by watering more, which only spreads the fungus downhill. The definitive way to know is to check the grass blades at the edge of the brown area. Horizontal brown bands mean dollar spot; vertical streaks mean brown patch. By the time you see either, the disease is well established.
These diseases spread by direct contact, not by spores floating in the air. When your mower goes over an infected area, it carries the fungus on its blades to the rest of your lawn. Water runoff across Triune’s rolling landscape carries it downhill. Every time an infected blade touches a healthy one in the wind, it spreads. That’s why preventive treatment is the only responsible approach. Using fungicides only as an emergency cure after damage appears, which is common, breeds resistant strains. When that happens, we run out of effective control options. My program uses combination products from the first treatment onward to prevent this resistance and protect your investment.
Stopping fungus isn't just about keeping your lawn green. It’s about building a resilient lawn that can handle Triune’s summer. When a plant isn't fighting off disease, it has more resources for everything else. It can survive a week where you forget to water. It can handle the foot traffic from a family barbecue or the stress of being cut a little too short. By preventing the inevitable fungal pressure, we free up your grass to grow deep roots and tolerate the conditions our clay soils and full sun create. This compounding effect means the care we start in the fall directly impacts how well your lawn performs next July.
Middle Tennessee's transition zone climate—characterized by hot, humid summers and heavy overnight dew—creates extreme fungal pressure for cool-season grasses like fescue. Brown patch thrives in these exact conditions. A preventive fungicide program is not a luxury here; it is a necessity for maintaining a thick, healthy fescue lawn through the summer months.

Those are classic signs of brown patch fungus. In Triune's climate, watering more when you see this makes it worse by increasing moisture on the grass blades, which spreads the disease. The correct response is a targeted fungicide application.
Yes. Given our humidity and nighttime summer temperatures, brown patch and dollar spot are inevitable. You either prevent them with a calibrated program or pay significantly more to cure them, often after they've caused visible damage. My plan includes prevention as the standard.
That's likely a fairy ring caused by buried wood from incomplete stump removal. Decomposing wood steals nitrogen and sheds water, killing the grass above it. The fix is to remove the wood chips and backfill with topsoil, not just more chemicals.
He may have a different grass type, superior drainage, or simply be lucky so far. In Triune's conditions, it's a matter of time. Fungal pressure is a constant here, and preventive treatment ensures your lawn has the resources to handle our summer heat and clay soils.
